Depression

Depression shows up differently for everyone, and there’s rarely one single cause behind it.

One pattern I often notice is a long history of setting your own desires and feelings aside in order to fit into expectations from others that never quite had room for who you actually were.

Depression can feel like many different things:

Numbness, exhaustion, a sense of just going through the motions, or sometimes a general feeling of heaviness that you carry with you. Whatever it feels like for you, I’m less interested in trying to talk you out of it and more interested in understanding what it’s connected to.

I don’t think the answer to depression is simply trying harder to feel better, or forcing yourself back into old patterns that wore you out in the first place. I think real change comes from slowing down enough to get curious together about what you’re feeling and where it comes from, letting your story unfold rather than rushing to explain it.

Rather than offering you another set of expectations to live up to, I want to be a place where you can be honest about what’s actually going on inside, without worrying about managing my reaction to it. Over time, that kind of honesty tends to loosen depression’s grip, not because we’ve talked it away, but because you’re no longer carrying it alone.

This work is slower than a quick mood fix, and I won’t pretend otherwise. The goal isn’t for you to need me indefinitely. It’s to help you find a way of relating to yourself and others that doesn’t require you to keep carrying so much by yourself.
